We’ve been following along on the development of the ASUS Chromebook Flip C101 since it first showed up in the repositories.
We’ve known for months that ‘Bob’ was going to be the true successor to the original ASUS Chromebook Flip. Other than being a bit on the slow side, the original Flip was a well-built and sturdy device. The dim screen was also a bit of a turn off.
Flip C101 Fixes Those Issues
This time around, nearly 2 full years later, the true follow-up from ASUS is about to arrive and bring a similar form factor with upgraded performance, ports, and what looks like a much brighter screen.
A Google search for the term ASUS Chromebook Flip C101PA FS002 you’ll see a bevy of sites already listing the Flip for sale.
These two, for instance, give us an in-stock date of August 1, 2017.
These next two show the display as 350 nits. For reference, the Samsung Chromebook Pro and Plus utilize screens that are 400 nits and are crazy-bright. 350 nits is a nice brightness level, especially compared with the rather-dull Flip C100.
Unofficial
While these listings aren’t official news from ASUS, with the Flip 101PA showing up at Computex last month, an early August release seems very logical.
The surprise of the bright display is a nice added bonus, for sure. For the price it looks to be commanding ($399 US), all these features are almost necessary.
Though at least $100 more expensive than its predecessor, I feel the device could be worth it. With the same processor as the Chromebook Plus and only 1/4 of the pixels to push, this one should be nice and quick. The resolution of the screen (1280×800) at 10.1-inches is a reasonable pixel density and the 350 nit rating will make it viewable nearly everywhere. USB-C, 4GB of RAM, and what looks to be a very high quality build all add up to a device worth $399.
Now, we just need to get our hands on one! Here’s the hands on from Computex again if you missed it last time.
