Since its initial release, the ASUS C302 Chromebook Flip has been pretty static in its pricing. At $499, this is still one of the best devices on the market for the money. There is a lot of debate going on right now over the choice between the Samsung Chromebook Pro/Plus but there’s no denying the ASUS is still a head-to-head competitor in the arena.
Now the ASUS Flip is an even better deal as it has been discounted on Amazon to $469. For comparison’s sake, the Flip will get you the same Core m3 processor as the Samsung Chromebook Pro as well as 4GB of RAM. Where the ASUS shines is storage. 64GB of on-board storage is double that of either Samsung.
The only drawbacks of the ASUS are the lack of a built-in stylus and the display is “only” 1920×1080. Honestly, that’s more than enough for this size of a device. You will sacrifice some brightness in comparison to the Samsung’s but you will also gain a backlit keyboard. That’s a big deal for a lot of users and a feature you’re not going to get from Samsung.
Apart from the fact that the ASUS is now $80 cheaper than the Pro, there is also the advantage of availability. The ASUS C302 is in stock and ready to ship. We are already seeing stocking issues with the Pro and have yet to see Amazon ship its first unit; a situation we hope to see remedied this week.
If a stylus doesn’t really matter, I personally think the ASUS is the better device. The build quality of the Samsung is good but the Flip just feels more solid. I do like the screen ration of the Pro/Plus but if I had to choose between the two today the Flip gets my money.
The ASUS C302 Chromebook Flip currently has access to Android Apps in the Beta channel of Chrome OS which is and easy task to accomplish and it only takes about 5-10 minutes to make the switch. Chrome OS 59 will be rolling out in the next week or so and we hope to see the Play Store make it to Stable for the Flip and other devices.
You can grab the ASUS from Amazon today and have it as soon as Tuesday. Check out the details below.
