We have seen sprinklings here and there of Android Nougat on a number of devices in various channels. The catch was you needed to either be in the very unstable Canary channel or you had to enable the Play Store via developer mode. Today we have received word that another Chrome OS device has add Android 7.1.1 in the Developer channel with no additional tricks or methods required.
An email for our friend Andrew S. shows the device status of his ASUS Chromebook C302 Flip running the Developer channel of Chrome OS. Right there in black and white, you can see Android Version 7.1.1.
This doesn’t do much to nail down when we will see Nougat make its way to Chrome OS Stable but what it does do is give us a clear indicator that the Android implementation is moving freely through the channels. For those who may have had it and lost it, fear not. The developers are able to flip the switch on the Play Store when the time is right. It would be nice to know when we will see the official release, especially to know when Nougat will be fully integrated.
Sadly, we are all at the mercy of Google and the developers working to make this project stable prior to a widespread rollout. Until then, we wait.
Do you have the Play Store on your device? Is it running Android Nougat 7.1.1? Drop a comment below and let us know what channel you’re in.
Thanks to Andrew S. for sharing.
