Yesterday, we talked briefly about how well Android games can run on Chromebooks that have the Play Store enabled.
Today, I want to show you this in motion on a big screen with the settings cranked all the way up.
As you can see in the video, this setup is almost flawless. Sure, the textures aren’t super-sharp and the maps look like something from a game a few years old, but this is made to run on Android phones.
With all the rendering maxed out, 60FPS enabled, and 10-15 people in a multiplayer room at once, the Acer Chromebook R11 chews through Modern Combat 5 with no lag or frame-rate drops.
The experience is smooth and enjoyable, giving me reason to play this game for more extended periods.
Additionally, with the R11’s full-sized HDMI port, I was able to hook into my big display at work and really feel immersed in the action.
My hope is Android game developers take note of this positive experience and, over time, begin developing more immersive games for Android with the end-goal being Chromebook use.
That goal is likely a year out, but I can see a future where Android developers begin building experiences with Chromebooks in mind from the beginning.
When that begins to happen, the Android and Chrome OS experiences will both be better for it. Enjoy the video!
