The next generation of Apollo Lake-powered Chromebooks will soon be hitting shelves. Along with the HP x360 and the ASUS C213, the Acer Chromebook Spin 11 will serve as the poster children for the latest wave of educational Chrome devices.
All three of these devices were expected to be made available between April and early June. But, as of today, no official release date has been revealed for any of them. We have found a number of listings across the web for the ASUS C213 Flip but the majority of them have no availability date or have been since removed.
Both the HP x360 and the Acer Chromebook Spin have made their appearance on their perspective OEM’s websites but are lacking any purchasing options. However, it looks as though some resellers may be getting a jump-start on taking orders for these Chromebooks.
A Google search for the Acer Chromebook 11 Spin will get you a number of third-party sellers that have the device listed but most are drop shipped from the manufacturer or lack a release date entirely. There is one exception.
Promevo
The Chrome reseller Promevo is probably one of the most recognizable names when it comes to educational Chromebooks and devices. The Kentucky-based Google Partner offers a wide range of Chromebooks, management solutions and G Suite services.
All three of the Chromebooks listed above are currently available for purchase from Promevo. I contacted sales to make sure the “in stock” label was accurate and was informed the Acer Chromebook 11 Spin was not in-house but they would be shipping to customers before the 1st of July.
There is a small catch. In order to purchase from Promevo you also have to purchase the Chrome Management Console which is designed for enrolling devices for institutions. If you are interested in getting your hands on an Apollo Lake Chromebook but aren’t looking to deploy a managed device, you may want to wait for a public release from other sellers.
If you are an IT director and are interested in learning more about the Acer Chromebook 11 Spin and other EDU devices, head over to Promevo and they’ll be happy to help.
