Google likes to do this from time to time, giving users access to a handful of rentals for a Redbox-like price. They are at it again, but there are some things you need to know about it this time around.
First and foremost, this offer is not extended to all Google users. Yeah, that stinks, but this looks to be aimed at new users or long-vacant accounts.
So, while you might see the deal, chances are you might not, either. There are a few ways around that, and we’ll get there in just a second.
Secondly, there are some really good movies in the offering this time. I’ve seen offers like these in the past that don’t include anything I actually want to watch. To keep it in perspective, I don’t get to watch a ton of films at this point in my life, so I usually have a large list of things I’d like to watch. So, if your list doesn’t contain at least one thing I’d like to rent, it’s likely a poor list.
No worries this time around, though. The titles are new and quality. Logan, John Wick 2, and Get Out are some of the fresh titles on offer, so color me impressed.
Finally, you need to redeem this by July 7th and there is a limit of one use per account. Plenty of time to cash in for sure.
How To Get This Deal
If your account is eligible, this process is very simple. Just head over to Google Play Movies and you’ll see the pop-up in the image at the top of this article. If you don’t see that, there’s no offer for your account.
Now, I said there were ways around it, and there are. Many of you have more than one Google account. I’d recommend logging each one in and seeing if any work. I personally have multiple Google accounts for work, so I gave them a try. My personal account was a no-go (I rent every so often, so I’m not a target account I guess), and my Chrome Unboxed account yielded nothing. My first attempt with one of my work emails, however, gave me the offer.
It’s not the simplest work around, but if you want a cheap rental, it is the only option here.
So, go check and see if you have a cheap rental available. And, as watching these movies is such a fantastic experience on the just-released Samsung Chromebook Pro, I’ll leave a link for you to snag one of those here as well.
