It’s all but confirmed that Ubisoft is preparing to launch their UPlay+ subscription service on Stadia during next week’s ‘Good Stuff’ event where Stadia has said they will be releasing game demos of three popular but unreleased games, pushing out new game announcements, revealing free to play games and more. In fact, Ubisoft themselves have confirmed that UPlay+ will launch before the end of the year on Google’s platform, so the only thing we can’t say for sure yet is whether or not it will make an appearance during the reveal event that’s set to take place between October 20-22. UPlay+ offers unlimited access to over 100 Ubisoft games for $14.99 per month. New releases are also bundled in at no extra cost and you can play them immediately after they release, even in early access.
Youtuber Gem Stadia has found a hidden page on Stadia’s website that’s since been taken down. It reveals that UPlay+ is not far off from release. You can watch his findings below. It’s my guess that the games above with no confirmed release dates will become available on Stadia to buy outright or to play with a UPlay+ subscription as the event wraps up. I also think that because of the way the service works, the games with release dates that Google has already revealed will join the UPlay+ lineup on Stadia.
In my opinion, UPlay+ (and free to play games too) would boost Stadia up to the same status as Geforce Now in terms of offerings, for many. The only thing you should be wary about is yet another subscription cost. Unless you love you some open-world Ubisoft action as much as I do (despite its faults) and can’t wait to get your hands on Cyberpunk 2077, paying $9.99 for Stadia Pro and then another $14.99 for UPlay+ (totaling almost $30) may end up being too much on top of your other subscription services. It seems like everyone wants a bite of our wallet these days and one can only have so many subscription services before it becomes death by a thousand cuts. It would be awesome to see Stadia and Ubisoft work out some sort of deal where those who subscribe through Google would receive a bundle discount on the two services, but I doubt it will happen.
